Anuradhapura is known as Sri Lanka’s first know historic Capital and is believed to have been founded around 5th century B.C.  Situated approximately 205 Km from Colombo, Anuradhapura is home to 2 UNESCO world heritage sites, namely  the Jetawana and Abhayagiri Dagabas, which are 380ft and 400ft in height. Furthermore the world’s oldest documented tree the ‘Sri Maha Bodhi ( Sacred Bo tree) which is over 2200 years old was brought as a sapling and placed in this city. The sapling was supposed to have been taken off the tree under which Prince Siddhartha ( Lord Buddha) attained enlightenment.
