This was originally a 400 year old property before it was bought in 2005 and tastefully restored and transformed in by Aman Resorts, to be one of the top-class hotels in Sri Lanka. The name originates from Sanskrit as well as Sinhalese, “Aman” in meaning peace (Sanskrit) and “galla” the Sinhalese name for the town. The property has a long and history dating back 1800′s. Initially this place was the headquarters for the Dutch Commander/officers and was subsequently used the British soldiers. In 1865 it became a hotel.
Amangalla is actually located right at the heart of the 400-year-old Galle Fort, a privilege that most guests would savour for lifetime.
