Satori

Satori luxury holiday villas & retreat - Galle, Sri Lanka

Satori is a term used in Japanese Zen Buddhism to imply ‘spiritual awakening’ or ‘seeing into one’s true nature’ and this hillside shelter in the outskirts of Galle lives up to the name, allowing guests a path for self-discovery. One need not be a Zen follower to be inspired by all this, as once guests step into this abode in Galle, they will transcend into a realm of private sanctuary with its inspirational themes and settings, with jungle in the backdrop, freedom and privacy both at their disposal, naturally helping one attain personal equilibrium.

There is an interesting history to this antique colonial villa. Over a century back, a villager named Upali Gamage built this bungalow, with plenty of land allocated for growing vegetables, fruits, tea, cinnamon and rice. Upali was a much respected figure in his village and had the knack of solving disputes and his property was a centre for agricultural dealing. His huge land was also able to house many of his relatives for generations, and a few still continue to dwell in his land. In fact Upali’s great grand-daughter Madori and her family are one of them and they bring Satori warmth and harmony in that were infused for generations in this culturally rich community.

Satori Villa provides a tranquil secluded abode for up to 8 guests. The villa rests sixty-five metres higher than sea level, on a hillside with wonderful views of paddy fields, valleys and ridges. From Colombo the villa can be reached in 1.5 hours, the airport collection can be organized through the hotel. Indian Ocean is just 3 kms away, and guests have easy access to some of the best beaches in this part of the island. Galle has a lot to offer, with the famous Galle Fort, a site inscribed by UNESCO as cultural heritage. Guests can also shop and dine at some great places around the heart of Galle, and all of them can be reached by the transport mode that travellers to Sri Lanka love the most – three wheelers better known as tuk tuk!

The main villa accommodates 6 guests while the Coach House can take in 2 guests. Due to the limited number of guests allowed to stay, the hotel is ideally suited for hire by one party. However it is also possible to have more than one party accommodated, should the need arise, at the discretion of the management. The villa features an infinity pool and has yoga and massage services/facilities. It is also possible for guests to organize tours and activities. Complimentary wi-fi is also available
